Pocket-size Drive Offers SuperSpeed USB Transfer Rates and up to 640GB of Storage in Durable, Lightweight Design with Frustration-Free Packaging and Affordable Price

Cirago International announced the debut of its ultra-compact CST6000 Series USB 3.0 portable storage drive that offers SuperSpeed data transfers in a durable, pocket-sized, lightweight form factor for optimum portability.

The 3 1/4″ by 5 1/3″ drive is just 1/2″ thick, making it one of the slimmest USB 3.0 drives on the market. Leveraging this latest interface technology, the CST6000 series can achieve up to 10-times the transfer speed of USB 2.0. The product is available in 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB capacity with enough storage to host a substantial multi-media collection.

Unlike other similar products, the CST6000 features a durable iPhone-like aluminum case that is not only lightweight, but also stands up to heat and shock better than typical plastic shells. Specially designed for portability, the CST6000 comes complete with a carrying pouch to offer added protection when dropping the drive into a laptop bag, briefcase or backpack.

“This ultra-portable drive delivers the latest USB 3.0 technology with plug-and-play ease that is also backward compatible with existing 2.0 technology,” said Patrick Lo, President of Cirago. “Even if your current PC doesn’t offer USB 3.0, with this device you’ll be ready to take advantage of the faster transfer capacity when you upgrade to a USB 3.0 machine down the road.” Read the rest of this entry »

Device Rapidly Probes, Identifies and Extracts Digital Computer Data, Leaving No Footprint

Harris Corporation has introduced a highly customizable USB thumb drive that quickly extracts targeted data from computers.  The device – called BlackJack™ – is designed for military, intelligence, and law enforcement cyber security missions, where speed, stealth and accuracy are paramount considerations.

The BlackJack device boots in less than three seconds.  It automatically scans and copies data by prioritizing search criteria and securely partitions search results for analysis.  Unlike other search devices, it has LED indicators that immediately alert to the presence or absence of targeted data, so users can be certain whether they have indeed located and extracted information of interest.

“This is a true breakthrough for the military, intelligence, and law enforcement communities that provide advanced computer forensics in the field without leaving a telltale footprint behind,” said Richard White, vice president, Advanced Information Solutions, Harris Government Communications Systems.  ”The BlackJack™ solution is lightning-fast, durable and has the potential for application in other markets, including corporate computer forensics.”

Harris is a world leading cyber provider, combining the latest in technology assessment techniques and architecture engineering expertise to define and operate secure networks supporting nationally important programs.  The company supports, owns, or operates several of the nation’s largest secure networks.  Additionally, the company’s technology countermeasures and monitoring capabilities are proactively safeguarding vital information assets that support the critical missions of U.S. military, intelligence, transportation, and law enforcement customers.

LaCie announced the availability of the first RAID storage solution to incorporate the new USB 3.0 technology – the LaCie 2big USB 3.0. In addition to the 2big USB 3.0, LaCie also announces the availability of its award-winning single-disk professional solution with a USB 3.0 port – the LaCie d2 USB 3.0.

Developed for professionals who require high capacity and fast transfer speeds, the LaCie 2big USB 3.0 offers the highest performances ever achieved in a USB 3.0 external storage solution, up to 205MB/s – setting a new standard in the market.

The LaCie 2big USB 3.0 is available in up to a 4TB capacity, allowing users to store and transfer large files without waiting. In fact, you can transfer a 50GB Blu-ray disk in less than five minutes, which is six times faster than USB 2.0. The 2big USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0, making it dependable for transfers with any workstation.

The 2big USB 3.0 includes two 7200 rpm hot-swappable hard disks and features three RAID modes for performance and security. Choose the “Fast” mode (RAID 0) to enjoy the full speed and capacity of the 2big USB 3.0, or choose the “Safe” mode (RAID 1) for full data protection against disk failure. A JBOD mode is also available for users willing to mount the two disks separately for scheduled backups using the included LaCie Backup software for Mac or PC.

“We are proud to announce the first RAID storage solution to fully leverage the performance of the USB 3.0 interface,” said Clement Barberis, Product Manager for LaCie’s Professional Desktop Solutions department. “Developed for users that require sizeable data flow, such as print professionals, recording engineers, and video producers, the 2big USB 3.0 allows them to take advantage of high capacities while delivering industry-leading transfer speeds.” Read the rest of this entry »

Kingston Digital Launches USB 3.0 Flash Drive

DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Supports Fast Transfer Rates

Kingston Digital announced it is shipping its first USB 3.0 Flash drive. The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Flash drive takes advantage of the faster USB 3.0 specification that has up to ten times the data transfer rates of the current USB 2.0 specification.

The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 has a read speed of 80MB/sec. and a write speed of 60MB/sec. It is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities. The combination of speed and size makes it ideal for data backup or fast transferring of large files including music, photos and videos. To ensure backwards compatibility, Kingston is also including a Y cable as some USB 2.0 ports require it to initialize USB 3.0 drives.

“USB 3.0 is the next major milestone in Flash memory for USB products and Kingston wants to have a solution in the marketplace for early adopters,” said Andrew Ewing, USB business manager, Kingston. “The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 is our first USB 3.0 Flash drive offering and is designed for enthusiasts who like to embrace new technology before it goes mainstream.”

During internal testing, a 1 hour 44 minute movie (3.9GB) was written to the drive in 1 minute 13 seconds. Similarly, a 2 hour 23 minute DVD (4.4GB) transferred to the drive at a fast 1 minute 23 seconds. Read the rest of this entry »

MB86E50 is Third Fujitsu USB SuperSpeed Compliant IC; Features 5Gbps Speed and High-speed Hardware Encryption

Fujitsu announced that another member of its growing family of USB 3.0-SATA bridge ICs, the MB86E50, has passed USB-IF compliance testing and is now certified as compliant with the SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0) standard by the USB Implementers Forum. The certification of the MB86E50 brings Fujitsu to three certified USB 3.0-SATA bridge ICs along with the MB86C30 and MB86C31.

The MB86E50 is the newest addition to the Fujitsu USB 3.0-SATA bridge IC family. Like the MB86C31, it integrates a 32-bit RISC MPU, and comes with available hardware-based high-speed encryption. Both the MB86C31 and MB86E50 deliver throughput rates up to 5Gbps, permit hot plugging of devices, and support the USB-attached SCSI (UAS) and Bulk-only Transport (BOT) protocols. Both chips also offer full legacy support for high-speed USB (480Mbps) and full-speed USB (12Mbps) devices, as well as for ATA, SATA Gen2i (3Gbps) and SATA Gen1i (1.5Gbps) drives.

The MB86E50 series supports RAID 0 (striping) and RAID 1 (mirroring) as well as JBOD (“just a bunch of disks”) and dual LUN configurations. Available in a compact 68-pin QFN (0.4mm pitch, 8mm x 8mm) package, the MB86E50 is an ideal design choice for demanding RAID storage applications that use external hard disk or solid state drives.
